Expert personal trainers reveal their favorite fast food orders to stay slim.
Fast food has a bad reputation on many levels. Some people complain that the quality of fast food has declined significantly over time, while others deride it as very unhealthy. While these generalizations may not be entirely false, they are also not entirely accurate. Fun fact: My personal trainer and almost all the trainers I follow on social media incorporate fast food into their diet. But here’s the caveat: They don’t order triple bacon cheeseburgers with a big order of fries. If you want to indulge in a little fast food action while still sticking to a healthy diet, there are a few expert-recommended menu options. We asked Wild for life Personal Training Leader and Nutrition Coach Kelsey Holgate about his must-have orders. Here are 5 fast food orders that personal trainers actually eat to stay slim.
Chick-fil-A Grilled Nuggets

Of course, Chick-fil-A’s OG nuggets are delicious, with that crunchy, flavorful coating. But have you tried grilled nuggets? My son recently bit into one of mine and was shocked at how delicious it was. They are also significantly healthier. “Toasted nuggets are the best option because they’re just protein, with no breading. Skip the dipping sauce, though,” says Holgate.
Iced coffee

Coffee drinks and lattes are calorie bombs. However, you can make iced coffee so it tastes amazing, without all the junk. “I use unsweetened almond milk with light syrups, add a packet of stevia, and bring my own protein powder to mix in,” Holgate says of her tip.
Salads

One of my personal favorite orders at fast food restaurants, especially Chick-fil-A? Salads. Holgate agrees. “Ask for a dressing on the side, a grilled protein option, and opt for cheese or nuts on the side, or choose one or the other,” she says.
Egg muffin or omelette

Don’t know what to order for breakfast? Holgate recommends an egg muffin or omelet. “Ask for egg whites instead of eggs. Add more vegetables. Avoid bacon or sausage due to higher levels of fat and sodium,” she says.
Replace your hamburger patty

If you want to eat a burger, Holgate recommends a few modifications. “Make it friendlier by making grilled chicken or a bison burger with lettuce or 1/2 bun. Skip the cheese, but add the tomato, mustard and pickles,” she says. You can also omit the bun altogether.
