7 Supplements That Are a Waste of Money, According to a Dietitian | XpertsReviews.com

I believe in supplements, as its name says it: Take a pill / powder in addition to food for an additional advantage. Although it may be advantageous to complete a good diet, no supplement can replace the consumption of healthy foods. That said, there are very good supplements with good research that supports them, and there are some of which I would go because they are not supported by solid research or could be potentially dangerous. As a professional nutritionist, here are 7 supplements that are a waste of money.

Anything that promises to burn fat is to be avoided. These often contain caffeine and other stimulants which provide a temporary boost but do not do much for real fat loss or real energy. Sustainable weight loss / fat loss comes from diet and exercise, not from the pills.

Another supplement that I do not recommend? Pre -assembled. The pre -shed tends to be code for caffeine or another stimulant. This can make you nervous, increase heart rate and blood pressure, and overall, be quite dangerous.

Detoxification supplements

Dropout

Detoxication supplements are also a waste of money. Your body has a natural detoxification system in your liver, your kidneys and your gastrointestinal tract. You don’t need a supplement to detoxify yourself.

Collagen supplements

Do not bother with collagen supplements either. Collagen is broken down during digestion, so taking it as a supplement does not guarantee that it will help your skin, joints or hair as announced. The consumption of protein -rich foods provides the same amino acids.

Branched chain amino acids

I also avoid branched chain amino acids or BCAA. Although popular in the world of fitness, BCAAs are not necessary if you consume enough protein from whole foods or a high quality protein supplement.

Testosterone boosters

Dropout

Log from testosterone boosters. Most of the over -the -counter “test boosters” contain plant -based ingredients with little efficiency. If you have low testosterone, medical treatment (like TRT) is a better option.

Vitamin C for colds

Vitamin C for colds does not work as you think. Although vitamin C is essential to health, taking high doses do not prevent colds or will not considerably shorten their duration in most people. Eating fruits and vegetables offers enough.
