If you eat eggs, you will want to pay attention to it: according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Department of Agriculture, there is an epidemic of salmonella. The CDC reports that on June 5, a total of 79 people reported infections in Salmonella in seven states, all resulting from egg consumption. Here’s what you need to know to protect yourself from getting sick.
1.7 million eggs are recalled

The FDA declares that August Egg Company of Hilmar, California, recalls 1,700,000 doct biological eggs certified without brown and brown cage. Eggs “have the potential to be contaminated by salmonella,” they say.
Here are the initial symptoms of Salmonella

If you do not know, Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, fragile or elderly, and others with weakened immune systems. “Healthy people infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which can be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain,” said FDA.
Here are the serious symptoms

Although most people only feel initial symptoms, in “rare circumstances”, a salmonella infection can progress in the body in the blood circulation “and producing more serious illnesses such as arterial infections (that is to say infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis,” said FDA.
Here is where and when the contaminated eggs were sold

According to the FDA, potentially contaminated eggs were distributed from February 3, 2025 to May 15, 2025. They had sales dates from March 4, 2025 to June 4, 2025, and were sold in retail stores in California and Nevada, including Save Mart, Foodmaxx, Lucky, Smart & Final, Safeway, Raley’s, Food 4 Ralphs.
Look for these plant codes and the details of the packaging

The recalled eggs will have a plant code number (P-6562 or CA5330) printed on the cardboard or the package, as well as Juliennes dates between 32 and 126. As for the packaging, the recalled retail eggs were sold in fiber or plastic boxes, with the above codes printed on one side of the cardboard.

The August egg company does not sell fresh eggs right now

August Egg Company is not selling fresh shell eggs right now, according to the FDA. “Our company voluntarily diverts eggs from a revolutionary plant for more than 30 days, which paste eggs and kills all potential food agents,” they told the organization.
